Minimum Requirements

To use the fossweb site (http://www.fossweb.com), your computer needs to have recent versions of several pieces of software (plug-ins) in addition to your web browser (Netscape or Explorer). Your computer may already have these plug-ins installed.

Depending on how many of the three plug-ins you are missing, you may need to spend 10 to 20 minutes downloading and installing software before you begin.


Current Requirements as of Tuesday, May 27, 2003:

K-2 Module pages: the latest web browser (Step 1), Javascript (Step 2), the latest Flash player (Step 4) and QuickTime™ (Step 5).

3-6 Module pages: the latest web browser (Step 1), Javascript (Step 2), the latest Shockwave and Flash players (Step 3) and QuickTime™ (Step 5).

  1. Web browser: For Macintosh users, Internet Explorer (IE) 5.2 and above, or Netscape 4.7x or 6.2 and above, are the required to view this site. For PC users, Internet Explorer (IE) 5.0 and above, or Netscape 4.7x or 6.2 and above, are the required. This site will work best with IE 5.2.2.
  2. Javascript: This site makes extensive use of Javascript. You will need to have Javascript enabled in your browser's preferences menu to use this site.
  3. 3-6 Module Users: Shockwave and Flash: This site makes extensive use of the Flash and Shockwave players available for free from Macromedia.
  4. K-2 Module Users: You need the latest Flash player, available for free from Macromedia. (You do not need Shockwave.) If you have already done step 3, you do not need to download the Flash player by itself. If you plan on using the 3-6 modules, in addition to the K-2 modules, please return to step 3 and download the combination Shockwave/Flash players. Step 3 will work for both K-2 and 3-6 modules.
  5. QuickTime: All modules K-6 make extensive use of the QuickTime plug-in available for free from Apple. You will need version 4 or later of the QuickTime installer.
